Gallery to feature Eloise Randolph Oct. 21 – Nov. 21; reception Nov. 7

Acrylic artist Eloise Randolph will be featured from Wednesday, Oct. 21 through Saturday, Nov. 21 at Sunset River Marketplace art gallery in Calabash, NC, gallery owner Ginny Lassiter has announced.  “We love Eloise’s abstract figural paintings and are looking forward to sharing them with our friends and clients,” Lassiter said. “She brings such emotion to every painting.” The exhibition is titled Figural Works By Eloise Randolph. A public reception to meet the artist will be held Saturday, Nov. 7 from 2 to 5 p.m. There is no charge for the event and reservations are not required.

Randolph, who now resides in Southport, NC, grew up a country girl on a farm just outside downtown Laurinburg, NC. Her love of art began then, encouraged by the local teachers and her family. “My mother was a talented, even gifted floral designer,” Randolph says. “She and my grandmother owned and operated a floral and landscaping business. When I was old enough, I helped — soaking in the elements of design, color, theory and line. I now realize just how fortunate and blessed I have been to be influenced by my mother.”

Randolph met her husband during her college years in Boone, NC. She had four young children when she had the opportunity to study with well known Charlotte, NC artist, John Brady, a choice she believes to be one of her best life decisions. “John was a great teacher, had a wonderful attitude toward art and was very encouraging to me. I began painting a lot and had my first show and reception at McDowell County Library in Marion, NC. There was a good crowd and I sold several pieces. I was hooked!”

For several subsequent years, Randolph painted at her kitchen table where she could “watch the potatoes” and “check on the meat” as she worked. With her children now grown, she has more time to focus on her art. Since moving to coastal North Carolina, she has earned many awards, among them Best In Show honors from Associated Artists of Southport and Brunswick Arts Council. In addition, she has taken home numerous other ribbons for first, second and third place.

The exhibition at Sunset River Marketplace will feature Randolph’s signature abstract figural acrylic paintings, using color and line to impart emotion. According to the artist, “My painting, Faces, happened because on the particular day it was painted, I was in a mood to draw lines and make faces (one of my favorite things to do). It fascinates me to create a design with these faces. Faces are people and I love to paint people with expression and emotion.”

On another day, she says, she might want to apply thick paint and watch as it mixes and builds to become an exciting and emotional piece. “Isabella”s Garden began with my hopes of painting a woman working in her garden,” Randolph says.  “About half way through the painting, the woman turned into my mother.  This is the way so many of my paintings evolve.  They sometimes paint themselves.”
