Waterway Art Exhibition at Sunset River Studio |

The Waterway Art Association is holding its nineteenth annual art exhibition over the Memorial Day weekend at Sunset River Studio in Calabash, N.C. The Studio, located at 271 Calabash Road is affiliated with Sunset River Marketplace art gallery, but at a different location.
The show, which opened Monday, May 24, runs through Monday, May 31. Awards were presented during a reception held Thursday, May 27. Best In Show was awarded to Marie Kasper for her oil painting Calabash Village Shrimp Boats. Elaine Bigelow’s oil, Left Behind, earned first place. Second place went to Miriam Pinkerton for her mixed media piece, Paris Two. Terry Rosenfelder’s Life Imitates Art took third place. The Philip Ebel memorial award was presented to Sue Ernest for her watercolor, Heron. Mary Leahy ‘s Ancient Tablets received the Frank Morrisson memorial award and Brenda Goff’s Winter Magic earned the George Roberts memorial award. Artists receiving merit awards were: Rozanne Anderson, Still Life; Sharon Bowling, Saltines With Radishes; Joan Cox, Miss Rockville in Shallotte; Susan Mauney, In the Garden of Reading and Jane Staszak, Studio Work 1. Honorable mentions were presented to: Joan Bobinski, San Juan Capistrano; Catherine Church, Easter Bonnet; Veda Doss, Labyrinth II; Mary Griffith, Infinity; Babs Ludwick, Riverwalk and Nancy Wickstrom, Fantasy Spheres. Directions to Sunset River Studio In North Carolina: Take Hwy 17 South almost to the N.C.-S.C. state border. At the Food Lion shopping center stop light in Calabash/Carolina Shores, turn RIGHT on Calabash Road. Go half a mile. The Studio is on your left. In South Carolina: Take Hwy 17 North just beyond the N.C. – S.C. state border. At the Food Lion shopping center stop light (Carolina Shores is on your right here), turn LEFT on Calabash Road (Note the street sign on your side of the highway will say Country Club instead of Calabash Road). Once you turn on Calabash Road, the Studio is half a mile on your left.
