New York native Ellen Flynn moved to Calabash, NC upon retiring in 2006. She is both a pediatric nurse practitioner and lawyer admitted to the bar in NY, NJ and Connecticut. She was chosen New York State Regional Nurse of Distinction for Westchester County in 1989, the first year the award was given.
After studying art in high school and then working independently in later years, she now thoroughly enjoys the camaraderie and support of the members of Studio 12, an art group that meets regularly at Sunset River Marketplace. Ellen worked on the potter’s wheel at LaGuardia Place Ceramics in Manhattan and then again under the tutelage of Joe Jeffcoat. Now working primarily in transparent watercolors, she is a member of the National Watercolor Society.
“After having spent forty years in the structured world of medicine I am reinventing myself in the freedom and fluidity of watercolor painting. I am drawn to the clean, translucent quality of this media. The painting that looks so simple and pure, is the most difficult to paint. I am endlessly seduced and challenged.”
