Karen Casciani is an artist who enjoys photorealism; she utilizes her photographic skills to capture an image, and then brings it to life in a watercolor, pastel or acrylic painting. She is best known for her vibrant use of color, fine detail and dramatic backgrounds. Painting flowers has become her passion. A journalist once said about her work, “The flowers look so real you can almost smell them.”
This Pittsburgh, Pa. native spent the last 30 years in Atlanta, Ga., where she worked as an executive, studied art, began showing her work, and eventually became a teacher. She and her husband moved to Calabash, N.C. in 2012.
Casciani has won numerous ribbons and awards since 1999, and has had solo shows at Art’s Clayton Gallery, Georgian Gallery, and Seasons Bistro, all in the Atlanta area. In 2012, Karen participated in a yearlong exhibit at the Georgia State Capital, and had one of her paintings selected by Governor Nathan Deal to hang in his office. The artist is affiliated with many galleries throughout Georgia at Sunset River Marketplace in Calabash, N.C.
