Gallery to hold author open house on Dec. 14

Sunset River Marketplace art gallery in Calabash, NC will hold its Holiday Author Open House on Saturday, Dec. 14 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. The event will feature 15 authors with works represented in the gallery’s book section. There is no charge to the public and no reservations are needed.

Participating authors are humorist Ann Ipock, children’s author Lynn Darby, mystery writer Brent Hensley, novelist Jacqueline “Jack” DeGroot, novelist Carole O’Neil, children’s author Jim Eberwein, humor/golf writer Peter Hoyer, storyteller/poet Joan Leotta, mystery writer Jeff Siebold, children’s author Marsha Tennant, lifestyle writer Linda Scribner, mystery author Tom Rieber, memoirist Otis Lee, Jr., medical mystery writer Thomas Kelso and mystery author Steve McMillen.

The backdrop for the Holiday Author Open House is the gallery’s annual Christmas show titled A Sunset River Holiday, which features Holiday-themed pottery, glass serving pieces, Holiday décor items, paintings, photography, artisan-made jewelry, wooden bowls and more. The gallery also features Holiday cards, tableware and a Christmas tree filled with hand-crafted ornaments that visitors choose right from the tree.

Hot cider, wine, and holiday treats will be served throughout the day. There will also be a drawing at the end of the day for a free gift certificate.

Sunset River Marketplace showcases work by approximately 150 North and South Carolina artists, and houses some 10,000 square feet of oils, acrylics, watercolors, pastels, mixed media, art glass, fabric art, pottery, sculpture, turned and carved wood and artisan-created jewelry.
There are two onsite kilns and five wheels used by students in the ongoing pottery classes offered by the gallery. There are realistic and abstract art classes as well as workshops by nationally and regionally known artists. During select months usually on the second Thursday, the gallery presents Coffee With the Authors, a series of presentations by local and regional authors. The gallery also hosts a number of “demo days,” during which artists demonstrate how they work and answer questions.
